BOONVILLE, MISSOURI

Boonville, MO, is the birthplace of my mother, Charlotte Marie Felice Heying and the burial place of her grandparents Adolph and Caroline Heying, as well as that of her Uncle Paul and Aunt Getrude. Hubert F. Heying, who had lived in Denver with his parents in 1920, married Margaret in 1924 in Kansas City, had settled in Boonville sometime before the birth of my mother in 1925, and stayed until 1935, when the lumber company Heying & Sons went out of business. The Boonville population was listed as 8438 in 2007, but the 2000 census shows 8202. The citizens of Boonville like to trace its beginnings as a settlement back to 1805 when Nathan and Daniel Morgan, sons of Daniel Boone, began to operate a salt lick in the area.

MARGARET REILLY HEYING'S FAMILY

Margaret Eulalie Reilly's father was Matthew Reilly, who was born on November 4, 1863 in Leon, Illinois, and died on October 3, 1919 in Kansas City. Matthew Reilley was a student at St. Mary's Kansas and graduated from the University of St. Louis. His parents were Thomas Reilly and Margaret Carr, both of Ireland. The mother of Margaret Eulalie Reilly was Fontine (sometimes called "Lovey") Elise Jones, who was born on August 12, 1869, in Bushnell, Illinois, and died on February 11, 1946 in Kansas City. Fontine Jones and Matthew Reilley's wedding took place at the Church of the Assumption, in Topeka, Kansas.

Margaret Eulalie Reilly's grandparents, the parents of Fontine Jones Reilly, were Felicia Chartier (b. in France, d. December 29, 1930, Kansas City, MO, buried at Forest Hill Cemetery) and Caleb Joseph Jones (b. January 25, 1840, d. May 26, 1919, also buried at Forest Hill Cemetery), who was born in Franklin Center, Iowa. The father of Caleb was Joseph (William?) Jones and Caleb's mother was Anna Houston of Indiana.

My great-great-grandfather Caleb R. (Rowland?) Jones was a private during the civil war. Living in Beardstown, Illinois, he was a member of Company "A" 14th Illinois Infantry, "mustered in" May 25, 1861, and "mustered out" Jun 24, 1864. (http://civilwar.ilgenweb.net/r050/014-a-in.html). Fontine believed that Caleb's father was William Jones, son of one Benjamin Jones who fought in the Revolutionary war, citing this excerpt from "History of Allegheny county, Pennsylvania*":

{In the settlement of Franklin Township near Pittsburgh, PA} "The first settlers were William Jones and his brother-in-law, a German named Holman, who arrived about 1800. Benjamin Jones, the father of William, was a soldier in the Revolution and in Wayne's expedition. Upon his return from the latter, he settled opposite Pittsburgh, within the limits of "Allegheny Town." Here he undertook to build a house, and, as the custom was, the neighbors assembled to assist. As usual on such occasions, whisky was freely imbibed, and a member of the party became embroiled with an Indian who happened to be present. In the struggle that ensued, Jones and several others, among them an officer of the garrison at Fort Pitt, lost their lives …"
